Bruce Lazarus

CEO
bruce_hiRes2Bruce Lazarus joined MAI as its Chief Operating Officer in 1998 and was named the company’s CEO in 2001. Bruce has more than 20 years of financial management and accounting experience in the media industry, including consulting for the accounting and finance departments of Fox News Channel, launching and serving as Director of Finance for the CNBC television network and serving as CFO of Request Television. He had previously served as Corporate Controller for Reiss Media and its Request TV operation and held accounting management posts at NBC Sports and RCA.

Before entering the media industry in 1982, Bruce was a senior analyst with Lever Brothers. He earned an MBA Degree in Corporate Finance from the City University of New York’s Baruch College and a bachelor’s of science degree in resources management from the State University of New York. He is an active member of the Broadcast Cable Financial Management Association and serves on its Cable Committee. Bruce also served as a pioneering member of CAB’s (Cable Advertising Bureau) Electronic Data Initiative (EDI).

John MacDonald

Senior Vice President, Audit Operations

John MacDonald, Senior VPJohn joined MAI in 1998 as a staff auditor. John oversees all audit operations including Basic, Premium and International. John has played a leadership role in establishing Cable Audit as the premier auditing firm serving the cable, satellite and Telco industries. In his executive role, John has been instrumental in developing proprietary methodologies for the audit program including staff development, software enhancements and project management.

Prior to joining MAI, John worked at Merrill Lynch as an Investment Consultant.

John has Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Colorado State and later earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting.

Richard Taub

Senior Vice President, Broadcast & Digital Services
Richard TaubRichard is the Senior Vice President of Broadcast & Digital Services. From 2008 to 2013, Richard was a founder, Chief Financial Officer and SVP of Distribution of Vme Media, Inc. (www.vmetv.com), the Spanish-language TV network with the largest U.S. distribution after Univision and Telemundo, reaching 74 million TV households via cable, satellite, telco and over-the-air, as well as international and digital distribution. In this role, Richard financed production of over 1,000 hours of content and launched a 24/7 Hispanic childrens’ cable network. Founded with venture capital funding, the firm and its majority investor, Grupo Prisa, successfully exited the investment in 2013. Prior to Vme, he worked for LIN Television, Travelport Software Services (a Cendant company sold to Blackstone), Citigroup’s Latin America banking unit (based in Panama City, Panama) and National Geographic’s New Ventures department. Richard also is a co-founder of a New York-based online education firm focused on Latin America and other developing markets.

Richard is a former Board member and Chairman of The Media Financial Management Association (www.mediafinance.org), and received his MBA from The Wharton School, where he was his class’ recipient of the annual Joseph P. Wharton Award. He is a graduate of Emory University and based in MAI’s New York City office.

Karin Bleiler

Vice President, Revenue Management

Karin BleilerKarin joined MAI as the Vice President of Revenue Management Services in October of 2015, with nearly 15 years’ experience in finance, operations and accounting. Karin came to MAI from MPEG LA, LLC, the world’s leading licensing administrator for high technology patent pools, where she was responsible for managing the financial and operational activities associated with collecting and distributing royalties related to consumer electronics products.
Prior to working in the consumer electronics and media space, Karin held management positions at MDC Holdings, Inc., Dynami Solutions, LLC, ALLURData, Inc., and Baum Arensmeier & Talent, Inc. She earned both her Bachelors and MBA from the University of Colorado.

Karin is responsible for leading the Revenue Management Services business unit; handling all aspects of revenue transactions from contract compliance, invoicing, collections and month-end close to ad hoc reporting and the continued development of MAI’s Vmetric subscriber management solution, on behalf of MAI’s RMS client base.

David Boyles

Senior Vice President, Business Operations
David_hiResDavid has over 25 years of cable finance experience. He has extensive experience in a wide range of leadership, management and advisory positions. He is responsible for providing timely and accurate financial statements, ongoing cash flow projections, product and services development, annual business plans, oversight over accounting and finance operations, as well as design and maintenance of the financial reporting structure. In addition, his responsibilities include day-to-day oversight of MAI’s Operations including Human Resources.

Prior to joining MAI, David was CFO of MavTV where he was responsible for the integrity of financial information and systems for MavTV. He developed and implemented accounting policies, coordination of systems and procedures, and prepared operating data, including interim and year-end financial statements for SEC compliance and all tax reporting. He also developed and modeled strategic business plans to support revenue growth used to attract potential investors, assisted in raising funds necessary to support development and growth of an emerging network and ultimately assisted in the business valuation, negotiation and due diligence of acquisition opportunities.

David began his career in broadcast media at Showtime Networks. He started as an Affiliate Auditor and later became VP of Finance accountable for all financial aspects of the Western Region.

David holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Amy Gittins

Vice President, Audit Services
Amy GittinsAmy joined MAI in 2002 and has held the positions of Audit Manager and Director prior to her current position as Vice President, Audit Services.  Amy has managed both the audit operations and client relations for many of MAI’s domestic, premium and international clientele.  In her current capacity as Vice President, Audit Services, Amy plays a leadership role in overseeing the Audit Operations Department, as well as the Contract Compliance and Client Relations teams, serving as the principal liaison between MAI and many of its valuable clients.  Amy also oversees the recruiting, staff development and training for all staff within the Audit Operations Department at MAI.

Amy holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, with an emphasis in Finance from the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Matthew Cannon

Vice President, Audit Operations
Matthew CannonMatthew joined MAI in 2012 and has held the positions Sr. Audit Manager and Director prior to his current position as Vice President, Audit Operations. Matthew has managed audit operations for many of MAI’s domestic and premium clientele. In his current role, Matthew has focused on staff development and project management to further mobilize MAI’s staff and allow growth into new business segments.

Prior to joining MAI, Matthew held positions with both Adelphia Communications and Time Warner Cable, where as part of his key responsibilities, he was responsible for coordinating and resolving the annual programming audits. Additionally, he supported the programming accounting teams to ensure contract compliance, reduced programming liabilities and played a key role in the launch and sustainability of Time Warner Cable’s automated programming remittance application.

Matthew holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and an MBA from Alfred University of Alfred, NY.

Greg Bryant

Vice President, Audit Operations
Greg joined MAI in 1996 and has held several audit positions prior to his current position as Vice President, Audit Operations. Over the last decade Greg has primarily directed, developed and managed MAI’s audit program relationships with the Multichannel Video Programming Distributors that are the subject of MAI’s programming audits. Additionally, he works with other senior staff to develop new audit business proposals and oversees the teams that are involved in the broadcast/retransmission consent audit projects.

Prior to joining MAI, Greg held positions in the banking and financial services industries in Florida and Colorado. These companies included First Union/Wachovia National Bank and an Arthur Andersen managed joint venture with the Resolution Trust Corporation.

Greg holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Central Florida, including a Major in Finance and a Minor in Computer Science.

Tom Sassos

Chairman

Tom Sassos, ChairmanAn original investor in CAA, now MAI, Tom Sassos has served on the company’s Board of Directors since its inception and was appointed Chairman of the Board in the Spring of 2003.

A 32-year industry veteran, Tom has held senior positions in both the cable television and the media planning and buying businesses. He was the founder of Cable Networks, Inc. (CNI) one of the cable industry’s most successful local advertising interconnect services, and a co-founder of Vernon Sassos McGill Media (VSM). VSM was eventually acquired by CIA Media Network, which appointed him CEO of its domestic operations. When CIA was acquired by WPP in 2001, Tom became Chairman of MediaEdge:CIA US. He stepped down from that post in March of 2003 to devote more of his time to MAI.

Tom is an active investor in the media/technology area and serves on several boards, including those of Fast Model Technology, WiOffer LLC, and University Parent Media.

William H. Perry

Board of Directors

BillBill is Founder and Principal at SoftBridge Advisors. Under his leadership, SoftBridge has logged three IPOs, seventeen successful mergers, and raised or assisted in over forty financings totalling $350 million.

Bill came to Colorado in 1982 as President of Precision Visuals, Inc. (a graphics software company). He built the venture from a ten person garage shop into number 49 on the Top 100 Software Company list. More recently, he developed Webroot Software, Inc. into his second Top 100 company.

Bill spent the early years of his career in large corporations, with key assignments as marketing manager for a $1bn line of industrial products, and as chief financial officer of a rapidly growing, Latin American telecom group. He holds an engineering degree from MIT, an MBA from Harvard, and is a recipient of Esprit’s Lifetime Achievement Award for Entrepreneurship.

Over the last 25 years he has served on numerous boards of directors for companies transitioning from startup, though early and middle growth phases.

Ken Hirsh

Ken HirshKen is one of the founders of Cable Audit Associates and has served on its board since its inception. A graduate of Northeastern University, Ken worked in public accounting and internal auditing for such companies as American Express, Hertz and Home Box Office (HBO). It was during his tenure managing the internal audit function for HBO that Ken recognized the importance and value to the industry of a company like ours, and he left HBO to create MAI in 1984. Since leaving day-to-day operations at MAI, Ken has focused his time and talent on a business that imports arts and crafts from Kenya and a growing list of other African countries.

Patricia Klausner

Board of Directors

Patricia KlausnerPatricia serves on the MAI board of directors and previously served as MAI’s Vice President of Client Relations. Her business experience includes serving as editor of a publication that provides financial news and analysis concerning the media industry and as a consultant for numerous cable television companies. Currently, she is the Managing/Co-Artistic Director of Shotgun Productions, a non-profit theatrical production company and serves as Director of Marketing, PR and Special Events for the largest dance studio in New York City. Patricia holds a Ph.D. in Sociology and has taught women’s studies and criminology at several colleges and universities. She held a seat on the University of Delaware’s President’s Commission on the Status of Women, was co-Chair of the Delaware Chapter of Sociologists for Women in Society, and was nominated to Who’s Who of American Women. She has presented and published academic articles on women’s roles in society, and more recently has written plays, screenplays and short stories with similar themes.

Craig Kornblau

Craig KornblauCraig Kornblau built his media career at NBC Universal and Disney, where he spearheaded projects around transformative technology and delivery. Craig is now principal of a strategic consulting firm, working closely with private equity firms and entrepreneurs. While being a member of the MAI Board of Directors, Craig also serves as Strategic Advisor.

Craig recently joined GV, the venture capital arm of Alphabet/Google, to deliver strategic help to their portfolio companies. He is their first advisor from the media and entertainment sector. Craig is also the strategic advisor to ROW8, a start-up streaming service that will distribute premium content to consumers at home via the Internet.

Prior to forming the consultancy, Craig was President of Universal Studios Home Entertainment for 15 years, where he oversaw all physical and digital transactional aspects of Universal’s North American home entertainment operations including sales, marketing, distribution, finance and strategy for theatrical and television properties from Universal Pictures, Focus Features and NBC Universal’s broadcast and cable networks.

Before his promotion to President, Craig previously served as Executive Vice President and General Manager of Universal Music and Video Distribution and Senior Vice President of Worldwide Operations and Logistics for Walt Disney Home Entertainment.

Craig began his career and held various financial management positions with Arthur Young & Company (now Ernst & Young).

Craig has held board positions with the Consumer Electronics Association, Digital Entertainment Group and Next Level Communications. Craig earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Southern California, Marshall School of Business.

Simon Pollock

Senior Vice President InternationalSimon Pollock heads up MAI’s international expansion based in London. Prior to joining MAI Simon headed up AETN International’s office in London from 2000-2009. During this time Simon was responsible for launching and managing the AETN International portfolio of channels which included History, The Biography Channel and the Crime & Investigation Network.

Prior to joining AETN International, Simon served as Vice President Content Development, Europe, for OpenTV, the world’s leading interactive television middleware company.

From 1992-1999, Simon served as Vice President Sales at Columbia TriStar International Television (now Sony Pictures Television) in London, responsible for the international sales office which licensed all programming to UK, Northern Europe, Central & Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa. He was also responsible for starting a worldwide barter division for the company.

From 1989 to 1991, Simon served as Director of Sales for The Walt Disney Co./Buena Vista International. He was responsible for all barter and sponsorship activities of Disney Programming worldwide, creating innovative new revenue sources.

In January 2006, Simon became a member of the CTAM Europe Board of Directors.
In May 2007, Simon was appointed Ambassador to the United Kingdom for The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
In April 2010 Simon became a Non-Executive Director of OSN, the leading pay TV broadcaster in the Middle East based in Dubai.

David Verklin

Verklin2Mr. Verklin is the former CEO of Canoe Ventures, LLC, a high-profile joint venture founded in 2008 by the country´s leading cable television operators. Canoe enables the delivery of advanced advertising and television technologies via the unification and integration of cable TV infrastructure in the United States.

Prior to joining Canoe Ventures, Mr. Verklin was CEO of Aegis Media Americas, where he was one of the pioneers in the creation of the free-standing media agency business in the U.S. Mr. Verklin brought the media agency Carat to North and South America and quickly grew capitalized media billings to approach $7 billion annually. He reinvented the agency model by integrating on and offline marketing services with the merger of Carat Fusion and Carat USA, which was for a short time the largest fully-integrated on/offline agency in the world.

Mr. Verklin is a recognized media industry leader. During his tenure at Aegis, David authored Watch This, Listen Up, Click Here, a user´s manual for understanding the new media landscape (John Wiley and Sons, 2007), which is still being used as a college textbook.

Mr. Verklin began his career at Young & Rubicam in New York and then helped create Hal Riney & Partners in San Francisco, one of the country’s most famous and awarded advertising agencies, first serving as its Media Director and later as its Managing Director. Under David’s leadership, Riney became one of the largest privately-held advertising agencies in the United States before it was sold to the Publicis Group.

Mr. Verklin was inducted into the Broadcast and Cable Hall of Fame in 2009 and is also a member of the American Advertising Federation’s Hall of Achievement. CableFAX Magazine recently named him one of the 100 most influential people in the U.S. cable television business. He also serves on the boards of the New York Multiple Sclerosis Society, Fast Model Technologies, SocialTyze, and the Grace Farms Foundation.

Mr. Verklin is a graduate of the University of Virginia.
